Home Portriats, House Portraits
Home portraits are an extremely charming gift for anyone, or a well-deserved treat for yourself. They become cherished family keepsakes and give a great deal of pleasure long after other gifts have faded away.

Marilyn's art, pen and ink drawings and water color paintings of homes, commercial buildings, churches, schools, and historic sites have been commissioned by clients nationwide and from several foreign countries.

All artwork is hand drawn by the artist. She never produces computer-generated art, nor is any work subcontracted to other artists. If you are ordering a watercolor painting, write a short note giving details of color such as "gray-blue shutters", "dark red door", "yellow flowers along walk", etc.

The art is created from photographs. Take one primary overall photo of the building from the angle you like best. This is the way the picture will be portrayed. Additional photos (details, close-ups, areas hidden by shadows, trees, etc.) are very helpful. Remember, if the artist cannot see it, she cannot draw it! Please see "Photo Do's and Don'ts" at the bottom of this page.

Photo Do's & Don'ts
Center the building fully within the frame of the camera's viewfinder. Try to shoot from the corner away from the garage, so the garage will not be the predominant feature. Get a small view of the side of the building so as to achieve a two-point perspective. This will create a more dynamic composition, better shadows, etc.

If you cannot get the entire building into one photo, take two. But stay in the same spot when you take them, don't walk around. Fill the frame from the left side and then pivot your torso to the right side. Duplicating the center portion is desired.
Do photo the building when the sun is shining on the front.

Don't shoot when the front is in deep shadow. Cloudy days are fine if it is light enough.

Don't wait for bushes to grow! Landscaping and trees can be shifted, added, eliminated, enlarged, trimmed, whatever you desire.

Do shoot in the winter (without snow) if possible. That enables the artist to get much clearer view of the property. Your painting or drawing always shows a spring or summer season. That is, of course, unless you desire a different season.
