Artist's Statement
Pleasing artwork is indeed
first contemplated
by the eye of the beholder but I believe, more importantly, it resides
in the heart of the beholder. When someone sees a piece of artwork and
is immediately engaged by it or admires it, an emotional connection is
made. The viewer may try to understand why they like it or simply enjoy
the relationship. Whatever meaning they draw is legitimate. There is no
single definition of art.
My joy in creating artwork
which resonates lies in bringing to life the pleasing images which already
exist in my mind's eye, in my heart. When I see something, or an idea occurs
to me, which captures my attention I know to trust that inner voice. In
only a few seconds, I can analyze line, shadow, form, color, and determine
if this is indeed something I wish to pursue. When I have created a balanced,
lovely painting or drawing, which pleases me and leaves a small door open
to further interpretation by a viewer, then I have achieved my goal.
